Actually, ELYTT ENERGY is developing one device for Ultra High Vacuum (UHV).

Goniometer. Ultra High Vacuum goniometer will have 5 degrees of movement empowered with UHV motors, of which three are rotational movements and two linear translation movements. The goniometer precision will be useful for surface analysis techniques applications such as Rutherford backscattering, where precise positioning is required. The following are some of the specifications:

• Bakeable to a temperature of 200 ºC
• Materials with low outgasing and vapour pressure
• Special surface finishing and cleaning of all parts
• Lubrication with molybdenum sulphide (grease or oil cannot be used)
• Choice of gearwheel materials or application of special coating so that “sticking” in UHV is prevented
• Control of all motions via internal stepping motors which are UHV compatible.
• Sample loading via a (magnetic) sample transfer system that is UHV compatible.
• Three rotation axes with 0.01º precision and (long-range) reproducibility
• Rotations around a vertical axis (range 270º), a horizontal axis (tilt, range 150º), rotation around axis perpendicular to horizontal axis (spin, 270º)
•  The three rotation axes must cross each other in one point within 0.1 mm
•  Two translation axes with a stroke of 15mm and a precision of 0.1 mm within the rotation axes
•  All movements are driven by internal stepper motors coupled with a gearbox to the respective axis such that one step of the motor corresponds to a rotation of 0.005º or a translation of 0.0025 mm.
